SUMMARY:Big Data\, Massive Engagement! How Citizen Science can contribute to the progress of the world
DESCRIPTION:In September 2015\, world leaders committed to 17 Global Goals (Sustainable Development Goals or SDGs) that over the next 15 years should help end extreme poverty\, fight inequality and injustice\, and tackle climate change\, amongst other things. This effort will only be successful if all stakeholders have adequate information about the progress being made towards each of the goals. As some of the most important data sets to help achieve the SDGs are local in nature\, they can often be generated and collected by citizens\, using devices like smartphones. Web­based tools can in turn enable citizens to track progress towards the goals at a local\, regional\, or even global level. \nSuch tracking can be done with the help of “crowdsourcing”\, which accelerates the collection and analysis of large amounts of data\, such as images or documents\, thanks to collective efforts on the Internet. Crowdsourcing is a mature practice in science\, sometimes called “Citizen Science”. \nThis presentation will introduce several ongoing activities in Geneva\, Zurich\, and beyond\, focused on crowdsourcing for sustainable development. \nProgramme: \n18:00 Welcome: 9\, chemin des Mines (public transports)\n18:15 Visit and Conference\n19:30 Cocktail at Biotech rooftop \nMaria Rosa (Rosy) Mondardini is the Managing Director of the Citizen Science Center Zurich\, a joint effort of the University of Zurich and ETH. She was previously managing Community & Partnerships at the Citizen Cyberlab. a partnership between CERN\, UNITAR\, and the UniGe focused on developing new forms of public participation in research. From 2008 to 2015 Rosy has been working at the WEF as Associate Director\, managing the YGL Alumni community.

SUMMARY:From IMF to the accounts of Nations - the extraordinary life of an Economist
DESCRIPTION:Speaking at the CWF June lunch\, Anna Lennblad will break down the details of her professional journey starting at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to a career as an independent in economic statistics and modelling\, assisting countries to develop statistics and financial programs. Anna will lay out pivotal moments in her career as a young economist at the IMF but also as an independent consultant and as a witness of political events that are still of burning topicality. \nBiography  \nA Swedish citizen\, Anna Lennblad holds a doctorate from the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies (IHEID) in Geneva. Anna worked at the International Monetary Fund in the early 1990’s. As a young economist\, she undertook various missions at a time when the IMF was a very male dominated and hierarchical organization. A high-performance environment\, the IMF was also a very safe environment with promising and steady career path up to retirement. \nFor reasons which she will share with the CWF audience\, Anna chose another career path and assumed the responsibility as Director General of Statistics at the Central Bank of Seychelles. Subsequently\, she has worked as an independent consultant assisting countries to develop statistical and financial programs. \nA few years later\, she developed mutually compatible systems for the balance of payments and national accounts in Ramallah\, Palestine. It was the post International Oslo Agreements in an environment of mixed feelings of hope\, frustration\, and even hatred. The “Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics” was located very close to an Israeli checkpoint and at one point the employees took a trip down to Gaza to greet Yasser Arafat. Anna still remembers how strikingly white his hands were.  Living in Ramallah was challenging. Being a young\, single woman in Ramallah was probably an even bigger challenge by itself! \nOur speaker will share these challenges and how they shaped her behavior\, personality and career choices moving forward. \nAnna has worked in over 30 countries and published works on economic statistics\, inflation and monetary policy.

DESCRIPTION:Comment s’est forgé le succès de la HES-SO\, Haute Ecole Spécialisée de Suisse Occidentale ? Cette formation universitaire\, spécifique à la Suisse\, permettant aux étudiants d’avoir une formation pratique et théorique\, est en constante évolution depuis sa création il y a 20 ans. \nLuciana Vaccaro\, rectrice de la HES-SO depuis plus de 4 ans\, nous racontera l’évolution de cette institution fortement ancrée dans le tissu socio-économique et permettant une entrée rapide sur le marché du travail. \nComment faire évoluer les formations pour qu’elles soient utiles aux métiers de demain avec l’évolution du numérique ? Comment avoir davantage d’étudiantes dans les filières scientifiques et techniques ? Voici deux défis de la HES-SO qui seront détaillés durant ce déjeuner. \nLuciana Vaccaro nous éclairera également sur son propre parcours. Physicienne de formation\,  après un passage au CERN puis à l’EPFL notamment\, elle a pris la tête de la HES-SO en 2013\, devenant ainsi la première femme rectrice de cette institution. Mariée et mère de 2 enfants\, Luciana Vaccaro n’a jamais perçu de difficulté à concilier vie professionnelle et vie privée. Engagée en faveur de la promotion professionnelle des femmes\, elle n’hésite pas à donner des trucs et astuces à ses étudiantes souhaitant faire carrière. \nBiographie \nLuciana Vaccaro\, 47 ans\, docteure ès sciences de l’EPFL\, a fait sa formation à Naples d’où elle est originaire. Elle a débuté sa carrière au CERN avant de faire son doctorat et d’être nommée maître-assistante à l’Institut de Microtechnique de l’Université de Neuchâtel. Elle a ensuite pris la direction de formations post grad dans le domaine du management et de la santé à l’Université de Lausanne. En 2009\, elle est engagée à l’EPFL pour mettre sur pied et diriger le Grants Office où elle a travaillé essentiellement sur le financement de la recherche au niveau national et européen. Nommée à la HES-SO Haute école spécialisée de Suisse occidentale le 1er octobre 2013\, elle est désormais rectrice d’une institution qui compte plus de 20’000 étudiantes et étudiants\, 28 hautes écoles actives dans six domaines d’enseignement et de recherche. Depuis 2015\, elle est membre du Comité de Conseil de fondation du Fonds national suisse (FNS). \n

DESCRIPTION:Ecouter Sandrine Salerno parler de son propre parcours politique vous permettra de mieux comprendre les étapes qu’elle a dû franchir pour s’imposer dans cet univers bien spécifique. \nLors du déjeuner conférence\, nous serons à moins d’un mois du premier tour de l’élection au Grand Conseil où Sandrine Salerno brigue un siège de Conseillère d’Etat. \n\nComment se prépare-t-elle à cette échéance d’envergure ?\nComment résister face aux critiques ?\nComment réagir face à un échec ?\nComment contrôler son image ?\nComment utiliser les médias à bon escient ?\n\nVoici autant de questions qui trouveront une réponse lors cette conférence. \nSandrine Salerno est actuellement Vice-Présidente du Conseil Administratif de la Ville de Genève\, en charge du Département des finances et du logement. \nTitulaire d’une licence en sciences politiques et d’un DEA en management d’administration publique\, Sandrine Salerno (1971) a débuté son parcours professionnel comme responsable adjointe du programme des Droits de l’Homme du Centre Europe-Tiers Monde (1995-1997)\, puis a occupé le poste de coordinatrice au Centre de contact Suisses-lmmigrés (1997-2001)\, et celui de collaboratrice scientifique à l’Université de Genève (2001-2006). En 2006\, elle est nommée adjointe aux affaires universitaires au Département de l’instruction publique. En parallèle\, elle s’engage politiquement et rejoint les bancs du parti socialiste en 1996. Conseillère municipale de la Ville de Genève entre 1999 et 2007\, elle est élue au Conseil administratif de la Ville de Genève en 2007 et prend la tête du Département des finances et du logement. Réélue en 2011 et 2015\, elle s’engage à améliorer concrètement le quotidien des citoyennes et des citoyens en faisant de la lutte contre le chômage\, de la promotion de l’économie locale\, de la défense de l’égalité ou encore de la promotion du logement social\ndes axes prioritaires de son action.

DESCRIPTION:Dear CWF Member\, \nIn line with the CWF vision: “connecting and advancing women in business” we are happy to launch the 3rd edition of the CWF Individual Mentoring cycle. \nThe first 2 editions proved to be a success and allowed the creation of 21 pairs of mentees-mentors. \nLearn\, grow and expand your skills – and network! \nThrough your experience\, your respective know-how and skill-sets\, both the mentor and mentee can benefit from new ideas\, inspiration and professional leads. \nAbout the programme format: \nDuration: March to November 2018\, monthly meetings between mentor-mentee. \nPriority: Individual Members have priority\, however Corporate Members can also register (please note that the CWF organizes a Cross-Company Mentorship Mentoring program for Corporate Members). \nNot eligible: Members who currently already participate in CWF’s cross-Company Mentoring Program. \nRegistration/participation/pairing: \nIndividual Mentoring Program 2018 guidelines: Please read the attached and only register if you consent. \nMax participation: The 2018 cycle is limited to 10 mentees\, subject to the equivalent number of registered mentors. \nPairing: Depending on the registrations received\, mentee/mentors will be paired\, after which each mentee will receive the name of 2 to 3 potential mentors and will be responsible for contacting them to evaluate which mentor could best suit her needs. \nby 28th February: Please complete the registration form here \nby Mid-March: Potential mentee/mentor pairing will be sent ; participants have 3 weeks to meet. \nnext step: mentees will communicate their mentor preference to the CWF Mentoring Committee \nfinal step: finalized pairs will be communicated to participants \nMentor or Mentee? Comment collaborer avec le monde politique ?  \nPour la première fois au sein du CWF\, le management au féminin dans le domaine de l’art est mis à l’honneur. Venez faire la connaissance Tatyana Franck\, jeune et charismatique leader du monde de l’art romand\, et découvrez un univers où l’esprit managérial\, la formation et l’histoire d’un environnement familial d’artistes de notre siècle sont intimement liés. \nPour cet événement\, le CWF renoue avec un format plébiscité par le passé : la carrière et l’expérience de Tatyana Franck seront évoquées grâce à une interview modérée par Particia Legler\, membre du Career Women’s Forum. \nDirectrice du Musée de l’Elysée à Lausanne depuis mars 2015\, nommée alors qu’elle avait tout juste 30 ans\,  Tatyana Franck a auparavant dirigé les Archives Claude Picasso à Genève et a géré d’importantes collections photographiques\, notamment le Fonds David Douglas Duncan. \nTatyana Franck est également directrice de publication de la « Collection – Musée de l’Elysée » et rédactrice en chef de la revue ELSE. Impliquée dans la politique culturelle de plusieurs institutions de renom\, elle exerce de nombreuses fonctions honorifiques en Suisse et à l’étranger. \nTatyana Franck est aussi commissaire de nombreuses expositions internationales dont La Beauté des lignes- Collection Sondra Gilman et Celso Gonzales-Falla ; Etrangement familier; Regards sur la Suisse ; Nicolas Savary.
