CWF Newsletter - April 2016

In this issue:
CONNECTING & ADVANCING OUR MEMBERS

Dear Members and friends,

We have started the year with a new format for our annual WAVE conference. Through the partnership with the Graduate Institute and a theme that has inspired many members and guests, the 2016 edition saw a record participation. The satisfaction survey was outstanding. The key learnings are posted on our website.

2016 is a challenging year. The global economy is being battered by a "perfect storm" to quote the World Bank. We are facing one of the largest immigrant crisis and global terrorist threats give ground to a growing influence of populist parties both in Europe and the US.

In such a context, what are women's advancement opportunities going to look like? According to the latest "Global Gender Gap Report", it will take another 81 years to achieve gender balance.

In Switzerland, as per the recent statistics published by the "bureau d'égalité", female employment is increasing, although women occupy lower level jobs and often work part time.

Investigating into opportunities, the OECD published a new report on March 8th entitled"Improving women's access to leadership: What works?". The report shares interesting insight into how to move the needle".

How can an association like Career Women's Forum continue to drive our mission "connecting and advance women in business"? The key advantage of our network is our tremendous talent base and through your constant feedback we can further build on our drive for mutual support and advancement.

In that spirit, we have launched the CWF Individual Mentoring program, coinciding with the international women's day on 8th March. 18 mentors and 19 mentees participated in the launch of this one-year's pilot program, giving and seeking support, inspiration and advice.

We are also dedicating time to the Women on Board initiative, with the scope to equip our members with the necessary information and tools to join a Board one day. Read the section about Women on Boards in this Newsletter.

I would like to conclude this editorial with a couple of videos that I find truly inspiring: Susanne Colantuamo: The Career Advice you Probably didn't get (click here) and Reshma Saujani: Teach girls Bravery, not Perfection (click here)

Nathalie will pass the baton to another member. Keep an eye on our website. We will also keep you posted.
CORPORATE MEMBERS CROSS-COMPANY MENTORING

April 14th: The 2016 cross-company mentoring programme for Corporate Sponsors was kicked-off with a meeting at IBM. Invited to participate are all mentors, mentees and corporate members (even those NOT participating).
June 23rd: Bacardi has kindly offered to host the next corporate breakfast.

INDIVIDUAL MEMBERS MENTORING PROGRAMME

The CWF celebrated International Women's Day, launching the Individual Mentoring pilot programme for our members. We have a tremendous amount of expertise and talent in our association and it's great to see that 15 members have volunteered to mentor a fellow member.
The kick-off was facilitated by a "speed dating" event whereby each mentee was given the possibility to meet 3 or 4 potential mentors, matching her development needs. The speed-dating party was also a powerful networking opportunity and we look forward to hearing and evaluating the feedback, at the end of November this year.

WOMEN ON BOARDS

Getting a seat on a Board can amplify a successful career. To such end, the Career Women's Forum offers a "members only" platform to connect you to active board-members, in addition to sharing the capabilities and soft-skills needed to unlock the board-room door.

The 2016 cycle will be initiated as follows:
• June 6th: Discussion panel "Come on Board! - Why joining a board of directors is worthwhile and how to get there" programme
• June 27th: Diane Reinhard of The Cercle of Admistratrices"
• More to come - stay tuned.
50+ TED TALKS

Please find the inspiring TED talks shared during the 50+ networking event in January:

WAVE FEEDBACK

Wave survey: The evaluation of the event was highly positive. Strong points: choice of the topic of the conference, general organization, venue at the Graduate Institute, quality, choice and level of the speakers, Q&A with the large audience qualified as the "crème de la crème". Small weak point: because of the high number of participants, networking was a bit more challenging. You find the summary on-line.
LUNCHEON FEEDBACK

March 2016: in replacement of a speaker cancellation, the networking lunch that was held instead, was big success. We have dedicated more time to the pre-lunch cocktail and facilitated a table swop between the main courses. The feedback was very enthusiastic. To be repeated.

November 2015: Sebastian Ulbrich "The right mindset for networking success": Almost record participation to learn the Dos and Don'ts of networking. Change of format highly appreciated (presentation then networking). Read the summary and the hand-out on line.

October 2015: Carmen Romero " She4She - The power of women leaders supporting and advancing each other" : the testimony of a Cherie Blair Foundation's mentor has been greatly liked by participants who found her inspiring. Carmen's idea to invite the CWF members to become change-agents, offering their support to member colleagues and friends has been highly appreciated. Read the summary on line

WORKSHOP FEEDBACK

March 2016: Personal Branding : What is it all about? (22 participants)
+ Setting was perfect, spacious and nice buffet. Good diversity of participants, able to exchange and network before workshop start and afterwards ; Clear explanations and process to go through. Very engaged presenter

February 2016: LinkedIn - tips & tricks (16 participants)
+ Great interactive session. Great overview of the tool and most importantly of the dos and donts.
- Not enough time...would have been great to spend time 1:1 but we have Josta's e-mail. And I forgot to ask whether recommendations are important...

January 2016: Strengths-based Management (15 participants)

October 2015: Leading with Intuitive Intelligence (14 participants)
+ Inspiring and riveting subject/theme that made me think about how I could be more effective in taking decisions and feeling more comfortable about my choices. Speaker was approachable, knowledgeable and structured. The organization was really good and professional.

WHAT'S NEW

Luncheon Badges: Based on feedback, we now use badges featuring both the name AND the company. Past presidents and committee members are still identifiable.
